In last several years the Museum Night has become major event of the museum's activities in Latvia.
95 different profile and volume of museums across the country gathered 270 000 visitors in year 2009. Therefore in this year, the museums will share the theme of ecology. Latvian will proceed with the slogan "For a clean world!".
Museums, as every year, this event will offer specially designed programs to promote environmental protection, healthy and virtuous way of life.
Museum night is an international European-wide measure, which at the same time are almost all European museums. Campaigns initiated by the French Ministry of Culture and Communications. Traditionally the Museum Night takes place from Saturday evening at 19:00 to Sunday morning for the first hour or later.
Entrance to museums during the campaign is free of charge. So far Latvian Museum Night was coordinated by State Museum Board, but this year the function is taken over by Ministry of Culture the department of museums and visual arts. The list of Latvian museums participating in this campaign will be published soon.
